RF over Fiber / GPS over Fiber

HUBER+SUHNER leverages its extensive experience and expertise in two signal transmission technologies – radio frequency (RF) and fiber optic (FO) – to develop an end-to-end hybrid solution for converting radio frequency signals to optical signals and from optical back to radio frequency.

• Greater bandwidth and distance — Fiber optics can carry significantly more bandwidth than coaxial cables with less signal attenuation. This reduces the need for expensive amplifiers and other signal conditioning equipment, while allowing the signal to bridge much greater distances
• High security - immune to EMI, RFI, EMF: fiber optics are much more difficult to eavesdrop than coaxial cables and similar interference with the environment is impossible in case of optics. 
• „Future proof“ - The transmission of RF signals over fiber optics is independent of RF signal format, frequency, and bit rate, so fiber optics can be used to transmit virtually any RF signal. As RF signal formats change over time and transmission speeds increase, the same fiber optic infrastructure can be used without the need to upgrade the solution. The operator can even flexibly distribute different types of signals over the same optical infrastructure 
• Cable cost and size - Fiber-optic cables are a fraction of the size and weight of coaxial cables; they are much easier and less expensive to install and maintain. Fiber-optic cables are also inherently more reliable than coaxial cables and much less susceptible to corrosion and other environmental influences.

RF-over-Fiber connections are supplied by HUBER+SUHNER in three basic product lines: 
RF-over-Fiber (RFoF), GPS-over-Fiber (GPSoF), and LAN-over-Fiber (LANoF).  

RF-over-Fiber

The development of this device was driven by the intention to provide RF connectivity with a significant reduction in the impact of patch cables. Standard RF-over-Fiber modules are available in 1, 6, and 12 ports and cover a wide frequency range from 1 MHz to 40 GHz. The modules can be connected e.g. with HUBER+SUHNER RADOX fiber-optic cables in challenging environments. These solutions enable interconnection over distances of up to 100 km and are ideal for applications requiring security, low loss, low weight, and high connectivity density. Supplied with QMA and Q_ODC-12 connectors as a standard. 

GPS-over-Fiber

These modules are designed to distribute a single GPS signal at 1.5 GHz to multiple receiving systems. They can also be used for time synchronisation of separate systems connected in different ways. GPSoF systems include 1- to 4-port solutions with both L1 and L2 GPS band support. Supplied on QMA and FC connectors as a standard. The single-mode solution, constitutes a possible distance of up to 100 km.  

LAN-over-Fiber

Modules for providing gigabit connectivity in harsh environments. Standard LANoF modules are available with 1, 6, or 12 ports and can be easily integrated into the network infrastructure. The LANoF system is particularly suitable for „LAN“ field installations, designed for data synchronisation, diagnostics, remote identification, and software distribution over distances of up to 20 km. Supplied as a standard on RJ45 and Q_ODC-12 connectors.
