deviation in magnetisation direction - angle error

It is usually required for magnets for sensors to have a high bond of their geometry with the magnetisation direction, i.e., "angle error", which is the angular deviation of the magnetisation direction from the geometric axis of the magnet.

deviation in magnetisation direction

This bond fundamentally influences the function of some devices, e.g. when the magnet position is monitored by a system of Hall probes or relays and when deviation in the direction of the magnetic field by a mere 1 degree from the geometric axis of the magnet can cause the late closing or the closing of a wrong part of the circuit, resulting in a failure or even an accident. All the causes of this phenomenon result from the manufacturing process of permanent magnets – the concentricity of the pressing direction and the magnetic field is not ensured when the block of magnet material is being pressed while the magnetic field is concurrently present or when the final magnets are being cut from the block which can be improperly clamped and its deviation during cutting results in a deviation of the geometric axis from the magnetisation axis.

measurement of deviation in magnetisation direction

For this purpose, we use our own instrument, capable of measuring the angular deviation of the magnetisation direction from the geometric axis of the magnet, thereby ensuring the correct function of the given application. The measurement principle consists in evaluating the direction of propagation of the magnetic induction vectors at certain distances from the magnet. This measurement is only suitable for two-pole magnetised magnets.
