rotor banding strength calculations

In permanent-magnet rotors, the correct design of the bandage plays a key role, not only in terms of functionality but also, and above all, safety. At high speeds, the bandage must withstand the extreme centrifugal force acting on the magnets while ensuring their stable position in the rotor. Accurate calculation and selection of the appropriate material is thus a prerequisite for safe operation.

bandage calculations

We specialise in rotor banding calculations for applications with permanent magnets. We use both analytical methods and the finite element method (FEM) to determine:

  • optimal bandage thickness
  • suitable material (carbon fiber, Kevlar)

carbon or Kevlar

Depending on the load, rotor design, and operating environment, we choose between carbon banding (high strength, stiffness) and Kevlar banding (higher toughness, good impact resistance). Our goal is a safe and optimised design that takes into account both technical and economic aspects.

verification of calculations in practice

The design does not end on paper with us. We offer the manufacture of a prototype including custom application of the bandage onto the rotor. Verification of the calculation is performed on the actual part.
